On June 25th Eric and I took Eric's parents to a Red Sox Game. What his dad didn't know was that we had something extra special planned. Upon arriving at gate D at 4:30pm a Red Sox Ambassador met us and took us down to the field. We watched the Red Sox Patting practice while standing on the warning track ON THE FIELD! We were unable to get any autographs (maybe next time). After the Red Sox Batting practice was finished we went on a tour around the stadium. We stopped for about 30 min. up on top of the Green Monster to try and catch balls hit from the Arizona Diamondbacks. Eric's dad just missed one as it flew passed his head and bounced back onto the field. Then we went and took pictures of Ted Williams Home Run Chair.
The story goes - "There was a man who had tickets to the Red Sox Game. He wasn't a huge fan of baseball, but he loved being outside. He moved his ticket from behind home plate to out in right field, because he was afraid he would get hit by the ball. While reading the paper in right field he fell asleep and was rudely awakened by Tell Williams Home Run Ball that went 503 feet. That is the longest home Run hit inside the stadium to this day. The ball hit the man on the head!
After many pictures we said thank you to our ambassador and took our seats for the game. The Red Sox won 5 -1 and we stayed for the entire game. Eric's dad loved it. It even brought him to tears. Eric and I were so pleased that the surprise went well and that the Red Sox won.
For those of you that don't know Eric's dad played semi for the Magnolia's in Philadelphia and was signed for the Red Sox. He played for a year and was later cut. He never made it to play at Fenway Park. He has never been to Fenway either. So this trip was his first trip to Fenway and he actually got to stand on the field! Amazing!!!
